Lessons of the Wombat

Sarah has been into making up games. Today she was rolling a ball into a bucket on the floor. I saw her do it once and then say "Yay! I did it! I get to the next level!"

(Okay we play too many games around her..but keep reading, the cute gets better).

She changes the angle of the bucket slightly, does a few more "levels" so I say "That looks like fun can I play!"

Sarah: Sure! We're going to make this tricky though. *She puts down the bucket so I am now looking at the side of the bucket.*
Me: Hmmm...*tries to be clever by getting the ball to curve, bouncing it off the wall, etc...fails*
Sarah: Silly mommy. This is how you do it.

She picks up the ball, and goes to sit across from the hole of the bucket and then of course easily rolls it in. She rolls her eyes and says "See mommy, you can do it if you sit over HERE. See? HERE *points to spot on the floor with her foot*"

Wombat thinks outside the box.

Wombat of the new millenium....

had to be taught tonight how to use a bar of soap because she's never seen one before. Ouch I feel old.

My in-laws came to stay two weekends ago. They apparently left behind a small "travel size" bar of soap in Sarah's bathroom (the "guest bath"). She found it and insisted on using it in her bath tonight. So that's what that funny looking shelf in the bath is for...

I was also reminded that bar soap doesn't work very well :P No wonder we don't use it any more.

Recall Wombat

Sarah and I enjoy Barbie movies. Yes, they are ridiculously saccharine, but they are also quite pleasant, have good morals, and the music is really quite nice.

About a month or so ago Disney channel played "Barbie and the Diamond Castle" (the latest movie). I like the movie and I really liked the song "two voices" and ...acquired it. I didn't think Sarah was paying attention much to anything.

I hadn't played the song till today in the car. I got about a minute into the song and Sarah pipes up "Isn't this from the Diamond Castle movie?"

Yet if I ask her what she did at school today she says "I don't know."

Sarah Wombat

As you may know, the letter "S" is difficult for kids to learn. Sarah, being the deliberate and dedicated child she is has worked hard to get them right. She writes her name on everything she draws, but often doesn't get the "S" right on the first try. She will keep writing the "S" till it meets her standards. Thus her pictures are often signed "SSSarah."

My child speaks parseltongue.

In other "S" news, "SuperTarget" is Sarah's Target because it begins with the letter "S". If there are two "S's" anywhere it standards for "Super Sarah"!

What was that Wombat?

Sarah was on a total talking streak all weekend. Seriously. The child would not be quiet for two minutes. It was exhausting...

This morning in the car I was talking to her and she said "Mommy, let's play the quiet game." I tried to ask what it was, but she said "Mommy! We're playing the quiet game! You have to be very quiet!"

There's a QUIET GAME??? So now I know for this weekend at least.
